Meals on Wheels Service

Our meals on wheels service commenced over 25 years ago, with delivery of about 12 meals a day to local people in the OLOL area. We currently deliver 60+ meals a day 5 days a week in the south city area. The service is available to anyone who might not be able to cook for themselves due to old age or ill health. Meals are cooked freshly each day at the Sit N Sip Community Café.

Meals are healthy, varied, and nutritious and are cooked to strict HACCP standards.  Each person receives a daily hot meal and dessert; we deliver not just in OLOL but also in the surrounding areas.

The meals on wheels project is supported by our Community Employment Project who provide a familiar friendly face to those availing of the service. The benefits of  the programme are much more than just a hot meal, its a quick chat and a check in each day, for those often isolated or homebound and it also provides peace of mind for anyone with elderly relatives who might be living a distance away from their families or working full-time.

Availing of the service

 The meals are available to anyone who is not in a position to cook for themselves, if you or a loved one would like to avail of this service please contact the community centre on 061-228596 or call into us at Sit n Sip Café for a chat. We will give you an application form to fill in some basic details and an emergency contact number. Once this form is returned to us and approved you can start using the service. 

Quality food

The meals you will receive are cooked fresh at Sit n Sip our community café. While we don’t have a set menu our meals are your typical wholesome Irish dinners, if you have any special dietary requirements please let us know and we can cater where possible.

Cost of the service

The cost of each meal is €4.50. This includes a main course Inc potatoes and veg and a dessert. You don’t have to commit to having a meal 5 days a week you can pick your days.
